Drop Off/Pick Up
In the morning, doors are open at 7:30am, and students report to the cafeteria. School starts at 7:50am. Students will sit at a designated area by teacher. It is supervised and allows kids to eat and visit until we begin announcements. If your child needs breakfast, please make sure they get to school as early as possible since we clean up for class around 7:50am.
If you need to meet with me before school, please schedule a meeting. Before I see the kids in the cafeteria, I am prepping lessons and activities and rely on this time to prepare before the kids come to the classroom. I understand things come up and need attention—please stop by the office and one of our lovely secretaries will call my classroom to work something out! After school meetings are also advised to be scheduled as teachers often have school-wide and district-wide meetings right after school.
After school dismissal can be very hectic, particularly at the beginning of the year. Parent Pick up is on the north side of the school. Bus kiddos will be escorted by another staff member to ensure they get on the bus. If any after school transportation changes, please let the office and teacher know ASAP! (at least an hour before school is out is ideal; earlier than that is even better). Your children are to stay with me or another Pioneer staff member until they are released to you. Please make sure we know when you are taking your child. We want to keep kids safe and make sure they get to their appropriate pick-up area and/or grown-up.

Tuesday Folders
The Tuesday Folder is a weekly method to share school related information and weekly homework. Announcements for school pictures, field trips, assemblies, extra curricular events, etc. will be included. Please be sure you look through your child’s folder and empty it as soon as you can each week. Folders are due back the next day on Wednesday.
Volunteer
If you plan to volunteer this year, I would love to have your help. Check with the office for the volunteer paperwork or access the form online http://www.lebanon.k12.or.us/schools/pioneer/index.php. This includes field trips, classroom activities/celebrations, and behind the scene classroom tasks (e.g. putting together Tuesday Folders). It takes some time to process, so please submit your form as soon as possible whether you’re planning to volunteer regularly or occasionally accompany your child on a field trip or visit our classroom. I will send out another notice when volunteer opportunities arise.
Birthdays
Birthday treats are not required, but if you wish to bring in treats to share with the class to celebrate, please let me know at least 1-2 days before so I can plan for it in the day. Treats must be store bought; please NO big cupcakes! Mini cupcakes, small donuts, cookies, cut fruit, etc. are GREAT choices :)
Again, not expected. I constantly tell the class that if it is someone's birthday, they may or may not bring a treat, and either option is equally fine. Really, if it is someone's birthday, we should be giving THEM a treat :)
Please be aware, our Pioneer Handbook discourages handing out birthday party invitations at school unless ALL children are included. If you are having a smaller party, I am more than happy to take them and distribute them discreetly into Tuesday Folders. This helps avoid hurt feelings and allows you to get the word out. If you have questions, let me know.

Absences
If your child is ill with a fever, please keep them home. If they have cold-like symptoms, without a fever, they are welcome at school. Absences are difficult. Everyone becomes sick from time-to time and that’s okay—it’s your call. Should your child miss school, please call the office and/or bring a written note to the office when your child returns to school. Doctor and dentist appointments should be scheduled after school or on non-school days. There is so much instruction happening in class. It is very difficult to send home work that would substitute for a day at school. Thank you for your help with this.
Show and Tell
We will have ‘show and tell’ or ‘sharing’ later in the year. Each child will have a day they are able to bring in a special item to share with classmates. This will be a fairly short time for each student. If they happen to be absent that day, they will have to wait until the next week to share. This time is used to satisfy speaking and listening standards. Plus, I love giving the kiddos a chance to be in the spotlight and talk about something special to them :)
Here are a few guidelines:
Items should…
Pictures are great and can be printed/brought or emailed to me for your child to share electronically. This is especially a great option if students want to share "a pet" because (as of now) live animals will not be allowed inside the classroom. If you have questions about a show and tell item, please let me know.
Here are a few guidelines:
Items should…
- be small enough to fit inside a backpack
- be something that your child won’t mind other children touching
- only come out of the backpack for show and tell
- not be a toy weapon

Extracurricular Activities
Some of you may have registered your kindergartener for soccer, dance, piano lessons, etc. I really enjoy seeing kids outside the classroom and pursuing their interest. If you have a schedule, I would love to receive a copy or know about upcoming games and/or recitals. I cannot promise, but if I am able to, I love to try to attend. I know that goes for my fellow Kinder teacher, Mrs. Davenport, too! :)
